hey optimist, i did het toelatingsexamen like everybody else and passed it(long time ago), it is not an easy exam but at the moment time is on your side, by studying for an hour or two a day for the next six months is more than enough. I would advise you to buy belgian textbooks and get some help in maths and physics coz those are frankly the most challenging parts of the exam(wetenschappelijke deel). I guess you can easily get free tutorials from your teachers if you are still in school regarding any material that might be new to you. Yes calculators are not allowed in the exam but you will not need it anyway, if you get used to doing calculations the old fashioned way the coming six months, many somalis do the exam too, so you will not be on your own at the examination venue(though most/all of them fail and never take it again). The exam has an afternoon part, which comprises of IQ, 'arts-patient gesprek' and stilleestekst, do not take this for granted, the problem with this part is time, the IQ is 50 minutes for 50 questions, the texts are academic and abstract, very difficult to understand for someone who did not practise beforehand, there are about 7 texts for 50 minutes, each text has about 5 questions, and i guess you know about deductive/inductive reasoning? answers are not to be found in the text verbatim so you you gotta infer and associate to come to your answers. I think you will do quite well if you practise and prepare enough.
a good website is
www.toelatingsexamen-geneeskunde.be it's owned by students from different faculties, physics, math, chem etc who help candidates with problems, it is 20euros if i can remember correctly, it has a wealth of usefull information, past exam papers and answers etc.
